The Village of Suttons Bay has activities all year round designed to make visitors feel at home in a small town. Wine tasting weekends, farmers markets, the art fair and Jazz festival are just a few of the attractions offered. During the summer months, you can bring your own boat to the local marina or even rent one to cruise both Suttons Bay, Grand Traverse Bay, and Lake Michigan or the Chain of Lakes.

Around the Fourth of July, you also have easy access to the National Cherry Festival in nearby Traverse City. If you like to gamble, a casino is less than 5 minutes away. Both skiing and golfing are offered at Glen Arbor’s Homestead resort, just a twenty minute drive. Leland (Fishtown) is the nearby shanty-town off of Lake Michigan. Kids love to body surf in the waves and search for Petoskey stones. A walk for an icecream cone in town usually follows. Suttons Bay, Leland, and Glenn Arbor boast unique shops, a plethora of art galleries, and a variety of restaurants to please your palate.

The Homestead in Glenn Arbor and both Mt. Holiday and Hickory Hills in Traverse City are the local skiing & snowboarding options. Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville and Shanty Creek in Bellaire are popular destinations as well. Village House visitors often visit Timberlee Resort (15 miles away) for Snowtubing. Snowtubing is fun for the whole family and no equipment is needed. The community ice-skating rink is less than a block away.

Wine tastings and tours at the numerous wineries is another popular activity in the Leelanau peninsula. The blooming cherry trees in the springtime and the fall colors attract people for hundreds of miles throughout the seasons.

Suttons Bay boasts one of the nicest bike and walking trails around. One of the “Tart” trails, this 15.5 mile Leelanau Trail is a non-motorized pathway connecting Traverse City at its southern end point with Suttons Bay at its northern end point. Running through the last of Leelanau County’s former railroad corridors, the Leelanau Trail creates the perfect setting for transportation, recreation and environmental education. The route stretches through rolling hills, lush forests, picturesque orchards, peaceful meadows and an aquatic medley of streams, lakes and ponds.
